   This wasn't what I expected at all - a pleasant surprise. I'd not noticed this film on it's initial release and probably gave it short shrift because of Pierce Brosnan, never an actor I've given much attention to apart from the "Thomas Crown" remake because of his terrible stint (in my opinion) as James Bond. But instead of a glossy, b-grade revenge-by-numbers Western it proved to be an entirely more philosophical and beautifully filmed morality tale as stony faced Liam Neeson and rag-tag posse hunt bearded Brosnan across the painfully cold forest mountains and then bleak and burning deserts of New Mexico. Our sympathies shift between them as fragments of the history of the characters are revealed - a smart move as ultimately who is right or wrong proves to be less important than the journey the characters take. There are a host of lovely cameos from actors including Tom Noonan, Kevin O'Connor, Wes Studi and a deliciously devilish Anjelica Huston, but it's really Brosnan's film, and he does a terrific job. For those expecting something more action packed and obviously crowd-pleasing it would be a disappointment, for those looking for something with some psychological weight and thoughtfulness with their hunt & revenge it's definitely worth a watch. 11 years 5 months ago

   I think the script might have been 2 pages long and they filled it with scenery. Don't get me wrong, it's a good movie, it's just forgettable since the plot is quite ... minimalistic. BUT gorgeous scenery, good acting from the leading man, it has a moral ... I can't complain. Just wished it had a little bit more "umpppfff" and depth to it. Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan never fail though. It's a decent enough movie. 10 years 5 months ago
