- Dern is creepy
- Plot goes nowhere
- Folk songs are cheesy
- Sets/effects cheap looking
- Huey+Dewey named in wrong order (OCD anger)
- product placement galore
- botanist unaware that plants need light (?!)
It is not fair or even prudent to compare this with 2001, there's only a superficial relation between them; in fact, this was a really nice watch because it poses an interesting question: in a world where human problems are solved and no one depends or needs plants anymore, why would someone would care to preserve them?
Not a masterpiece but a good sci-fi with a nice ending.
A little hippie-esque though.
The Joan Baez soundtrack REALLY dates it. And for a botanist, or at least someone who deals with plants a lot, the main character makes some incredibly dumb mistakes.
So weird. This movie inspired 4 series that I love (Mystery Science Theater 3000, Red Dwarf, Battlestar Galactica, and Star Wars), but I just didn't enjoy it that much.
It must be the most depressing film of the 1970s. Which is saying something. I don't think I liked it at first. Preachy in the first act, with long boring scenes in the middle, and a protagonist that is never really likable. Strangely, it's the sad little drones that you most empathize with, despite their looking like boxes.
Somehow I didn't like this movie too much. It's not very intelligent and I somehow cannot understand any motivation why these plants would be destroyed in the first place. If the movie would have backed it up a little bit (i.e. telling how people manage to live on Earth without plants) it might have been more believable.

The best part of this movie was the drones, it's worth watching it just for them :)Woliver

Not a great movie, it's true.Carbon Based Lifeforms fans, however, this is where the "What about the forests? No. Guessing" sample comes from. :)
