Tales from the Crypt presents Demon Knight and it's a hoot! First of all, very memorable cast. Billy Zane is having a lot of fun as the Devil, adding a tempter of souls to what is otherwise an Evil Dead set-up - the demons strongly remind me of Deadites, and are really great make-up and animatronic effects - while William Sattler, who would be cast as the villain in most other things, is the eponymous Knight, protecting a vial of Christ's Blood. He and a bunch of quirky characters are trapped inside a church turned into a seedy hotel under siege by the monsters. Gross-out gore and shotgun action ensue. Plus, prime Jada Pinkett helping to change how African-Americans are used in horror films, CCH Pounder fighting demons, Thomas Haden Church douching it up, Dick Miller - cuz you GOTTA have Dick Miller - and maybe even an amusing cameo in the frame tale. Like I said, it's a lot of fun. Largely due to Zane's performance, but he doesn't have to be present for the movie to sing. 6 months 3 weeks ago

Felt like a From Dusk to Dawn retake (even though this was first...). Take it in with that mind frame and it works pretty well. Have a couple and it ll be an even better time 3 years 1 month ago

I used to be so into Tales From the Crypt when I was growing up. I loved the HBO show and even had some short story books and some reprints of the old EC comics the show was based on. I remember being really excited when I heard they were going to start releasing theatrical movies based on the property and for the most part this film does not disappoint. It has a great villain with Billy Zane and a fun plot with a group of people gathered to fend off an old hotel against a horde of demons. It's good, trashy fun.

The 90's were kind of a strange time in horror. They could have a quasi-religious storyline sprinkled with sex and nudity and nobody would bat an eye. It's a little bit like a Hammer horror film in that way, now that I think about it, but way less classy. Also, the sex present is very 90's: crazy huge, fake boobs and teased-up hair. (Think along the lines of someone like Anna Nicole Smith.) Really ridiculous, actually. Thankfully, that isn't really fashionable in a mainstream way anymore.
