Ugly CGI and a central character that wasn't in any way interesting to watch. There's not much that happens but let's rejoice over the fact that it was only 100 minutes long!

Less than OK. But still a medium movie. The original is definitely much better!

You can't dislodge the original The Day the Earth Stood Still from its iconic science-fiction film status, and given that the Keanu Reeves version doesn't really have much in common with it (the basic premise, the robot's look, and a couple names), I decided I could watch it as just a different SF film that just happens to have the same title. Even so, it doesn't quite work. As a piece of world-building, it's got some good ideas. It finds ways to explain this much more antagonistic Klaatu's human appearance and gives the threat to humanity cool destruction porn effects. However, it all gets bogged down in family histrionics thanks to an objectionable child character whose third act turn, like Klaatu's itself, is unearned. Where the real tension should lie with whether Jennifer Connelly can convince Klaatu humanity is salvageable, the movie keeps making it about whether she can find the time to do so while they deal with typical government obstructionism (or her kid's) and get chased by the military. By going the action route, it forgets what it's actually about. And if a movie ever needed an epilogue or coda, it's this one. The ending is so abrupt and unsatisfying, I loudly shouted "WHAT" to myself. It's still resonating through my walls as you read this.

It had it's moments but I'm not exactly keen on seeing it again. OK but not too good.

Keanu Reeves was good. As for the movie... interesting plot but with predictable ending. Makes the truth come across: humans are not kind for this planet and Earth would be better off without us. Wish the ending was different.

[CONTAINS SPOILERS]

Centered in logic dialogs, I believe this version tells in a very reasonable way the major story.
Although I haven't seen the original to compare, in this version, the scene that most delighted me was when Reeves, Connelly and John Cleese were dabating the hability of the human race to evolve when needed. It's a shame that it's over so quickly. ( "Only at the precipice do we evolve" )

One of the aspects that I most enjoyed was the critics to the US Government and military decisions. To lay everything in the hands of one single person instead of a counsel. How they think that "because it landed here, it's ours". And how they say that this is "our planet".

Some small facts are amusing to watch as well. Like the incinerator scene, when the executive locks the operator to die inside the chamber, but when everything's about to collapse, he begs to leave.

Known for been one of the most inexpressive actors of all time, Keanu Reeves wisely chooses his characters. Afterall, you can't expect an alien without more than a week on Earth and yet "getting used" to his body to demonstrate emotions. Connelly is ok in a shallow and cold character that could be better played. Jaden Smith doesn't help. In fact, I don't understand what that kid is doing. His daddy must be paying a real hard cash to put him in this movies.

In final conclusions, it's a love story, but an unusual love. Not the man and wife love, but the human love. The bond between mother and son and how it's visible both to an alien who is here for 70 years and one who is less than a week.

7/10

Didn't liked the original, but after watching this even the original looks like a masterpiece. It is one of those movies I voted 1 in IMDB.
