Though there are some cool elements like the Bullitt chase sequence with a miniature car, it doesn't quite feel like a Dirty Harry picture. It's far less gritty, for one thing, and though it's logical for Harry to have mellowed out, he's not quite the no-nonsense character we remember from the other films. He seems plugged into a generic detective story about murdered celebrities. Notable because it's, well, just about everyone's first feature film (Patricia Clarkson, Jim Carey, Guns & Roses and Liam Neeson - in America at least), it nevertheless comes off as ordinary.
It reeks of the eighties, I about died laughing when I recognized Jim Carrey. Harry is more or less at the end of his bullet riddled career here and I think the audience feels it. It tries to harken back to the concept of the Scorpio killer but it just isn't nearly as effective. Harry's obsession with downplaying his fame gets rather annoying when there could have been more time spent on better character development. The film length of 91 minutes is the shortest of the series and really should have been longer.
Awesome return to form after slight dip in quality with Sudden Impact, I would probably put this as joint-second-best Dirty Harry film with Magnum Force. It also has easily the best use of a remote control toy car in any film ever.

Definitely the worst of all the Harry Callahan movies, some scenes were very entertaining, but overall nothing special.Earring72
