Providing what is probably Keanu Reeves' most famous role, The Matrix takes most of its cues from Hong Kong cinema (kung fu and gun fu), with an added layer of cutting-edge CG (not all of which has aged well, not that it matters), but would prove to be a game-changer for American action cinema. As a lover of HK cinema, I can see its fingerprints everywhere, but Keanu looks as proficient as any A-list martial arts star, so the work stands on its own, and we can thank The Matrix as much as Crouching Tiger for reviving an interest in Chinese action pictures, those choreographed by Yen Woo-ping to Western screens, and the essential Dragon Dynasty collection on DVD. Watching it today, its crazy action, heady Buddhist themes, and super-cool aesthetic still work in a way that would never again be captured by the franchise (the Wachowskis get one more chance apparently, we'll see). Perfect soundtrack. Iconic scenes. A career-maker or invigorator for most of the actors involved. One of the most influential movies of the turn of the Millennium. "Whoa." For what it's worth, Neo. I agree.

The unequaled original, it totally changed the face of modern American cinema, and with good reason. A trippy ride with cool effects and mind-boggling action, but also grand ideas.

(Spanish Version Down :))

I saw this Movie when I was a Child, really. Like 8-10 Years Old, I just think this was another stupid fantastic movie.

Today I saw this movie again, Im a little older, and I have read Descartes during my life. I think this movie have lots of philosophy concepts, that many people dont even know.

Amazing movie, makes you think, maybe stupid things, but it makes you think, and not many movies can make that.

Sequels sucked (Reloaded is ok, I include it in my favourites list), but still one of the most important movies in modern cinema history. Fitting that it came out in 1999, to usher in the new century of filmmaking.

I admire this two sisters/brothers (idk) as directors of their own masterpiece.

Matrix will be always remembered, i saw it in 2002, and now in 2017 and it´s just simply immersing, the whole meaning of The Matrix creates a doubt in humanity and what are we doing here.

The trilogy, the efects, the CGI pretty much similar to videogames in the 2000's, the difficulties of the directors when being different and not American was a big impediment.

10/10

If ever there was a perfect movie, this is it.

Possibly the most important film in cinematic history since Lawrence of Arabia and the most important in sci-fi since Star Wars. Its impact has been that huge on the industry.

Great film, and massively important one despite the hammy acting. It's a shame that so much of it is ripped off from William Gibson's Neuromancer that it's unlikely there'll never be an adaptation of that amazing book.
