Science Fiction Cinema: From Outer Space to Cyberspace
Favs/dislikes: 8:0. Science Fiction Cinema: From Outer Space to Cyberspace charts the dimensions of what has become one of the most popular genres in the cinema. From lurid comic-book blockbusters to dark dystopian visions, science fiction is seen as both a powerful cultural barometer of our times and the product of particular industrial and commercial frameworks. Geoff King and Tanya Krzywinska outline the major themes of the genre, from representations of the mad scientist and computer hacker to the relationship between science fiction and postmodernism, exploring isssues such as the meaning of special effects and the influence of science fiction cinema on the entertainment media of the digital age. The Short Cuts series is a comprehensive list of introductory texts covering the full spectrum of Film Studies, specifically designed for building an individually-styled library for all students and enthusiasts of cinema and popular culture. -

Anarchist anime: no kami, no kazoku
Favs/dislikes: 0:1. no keigo, no geishas That is, anime that should be of interest to anarchists because of progressive themes. Socialism will do too if it's not too auth (look up chinese Donghua for that? also Girls Und Panzer, First Squad?). One title per series. (everything that gets mentioned online is good enough unless there are serious counterarguments) "If you're just looking for anime that can have an anarchist/socialist interpretation, then there're plenty. But if you want something strictly socialist, something overtly promoting working class consciousness, unequivocally exploring themes directly related to socialist revolution, then there is none other than the Marx bio. Like, Code Geass can be read as anti-imperialist, but it never mentions anything like economic equality or abolition of class. It also never associates the rise of Brittania with capitalism. Nothing in the show suggests the anti-Brittania revolutionaries are gonna install socialism rather than keeping capitalism in place once they take power. A liberal or a nationalist can easily enjoy the show using their own perspective."
