    Vorbehaltsfilm (Banned Nazi Germany films)

Favs/dislikes: 6:0. These are the 40+ films that were made during the Nazi era period of Germany that remain banned in the country. The list was originally created by the Allies upon their control of post-war Germany. At that time, the list consisted of more than a thousand films. Although most of the films on the original list have been removed and are now available freely in the country, these films remain banned due to "propaganda, glorifying war or antisemitism." Control of these films are their status on the list is under the jurisdiction of the Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Filmwirtschaft (or FSK). These films can only be viewed during special academic screenings - which require very strict regulations. AMP's 40 Great Japanese Films of the 00s (2000-2009)

Favs/dislikes: 0:0. May 28, 2020 Panos Kotzathanasis When someone talks about the Japanese movie industry in the 00s, inevitably the discussion goes towards anime, which, in the specific decade, accounted for 60% of the local film production. With films like Miyazaki’s “Spirited Away” and the rest of Studio Ghibli’s productions, along with masterpieces from Satoshi Kon, Mamoru Oshii, Katsuhiro Otomo and other great filmmakers, there is no wonder why the 00s were considered “Japanese Cinema’s Second Golden Age”, particularly for the penetration of local films in cinemas around the world. However, anime were not the only story Japanese cinema had to tell in this decade. Yojiro Takita also won an Oscar, Shinji Aoyama and Naomi Kawase won at Cannes, Hirokazu Koreeda continued his successful festival run, Yoji Yamada made an exceptional trilogy of samurai films, Shunji Iwai directed one of the most critically acclaimed film of the decade, Kinji Fukasaku released his last film and Takeshi Kitano his most successful. Furthermore, cult (exploitation) and horror favorites Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Takashi Miike and Sion Sono established themselves as masters of the categories, while a number of independent directors also arose. Without further ado, here is the list with the best films of the 00s, in random order, again with a focus on diversity, in a list that, once more, could feature many more titles. 20th Century Boys trilogy is counted as one entry.

  20. AMP's The 40 Best Japanese Movies of the Decade (2011-2020)'s icon

AMP's The 40 Best Japanese Movies of the Decade (2011-2020)

Favs/dislikes: 3:0. National cinemas come and go from the top, which is currently dominated by Korea, as it did by Hong Kong some decades ago, but the truth remains that the only one who has stayed on top since its beginning (maybe with the exception of the 80s) is the Japanese one. Either through the festival favorites like Koreeda, Kawase, Kiyoshi Kurosawa or through the more cult like Miike, Sono, Toyoda, or through a number of newcomers, Japanese cinema continues to make an impact, proving both its current quality and its potential for the years to come. The decade that just passed is another testament to the fact, and the movies that you will find in this list, the most distinct proof. In an effort to winnow some of the best Japanese movies of the decade (2011-2020), we came up with 40 we felt were the ones that truly stand out in terms of quality, impact and sheer entertainment they offered. The order of this list could be different of course and the number much bigger, but our effort was towards presenting great films and not cataloguing all of them, always with a focus on diversity in style, themes and filmmaker.
  21. AMP's The 40 Best Korean Movies of the Decade (2011-2020)'s icon

AMP's The 40 Best Korean Movies of the Decade (2011-2020)

Favs/dislikes: 0:0. What started as the Korean New Wave in the late 90s really flourished in the 2000s. The 2010s, however, is where we saw what we can call the “new” golden age for Korean cinema, where several new-name directors made their mark, established filmmakers cemented their names in world cinema, actors became stars, blockbuster cinema raked in big money and independent cinema also thrived. Thanks to the success of films like “The Handmaiden” and “Train to Busan” on a global level, a new audience started having a much keener interest in films from the country, while the unprecedented, historic success of “Parasite” at the end only went on to bookend the truly spectacular decade that the 2010s was for South Korean cinema. In an effort to winnow some of the best Korean movies of the decade (2011-2020), we came up with 40 we felt were the ones that truly stand out in terms of quality, impact and sheer entertainment they offered. The order of this list could be different of course and the number much bigger, but our effort was towards presenting great films and not cataloguing all of them, always with a focus on diversity in style, themes and filmmakers.
