    Kitchen Sink Realism

Favs/dislikes: 14:0. Kitchen sink realism (or kitchen sink drama) is a term coined to describe a British cultural movement which developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s in theatre, art, novels, film and television plays, whose 'heroes' usually could be described as angry young men. It used a style of social realism, which often depicted the domestic situations of working-class Britons living in rented accommodation and spending their off-hours drinking in grimy pubs, to explore social issues and political controversies. 6. Letterboxd Top 100 Animated Films's icon

    Letterboxd Top 100 Animated Films

Favs/dislikes: 5:0. "100 highest-rated feature-length animated films on Letterboxd. Minimum 1,000 ratings. Updated on January 1, 2022. Sequels to shows or anime series—Japanese, American or from elsewhere—that need greater context before watching are not included. Those that are included can be enjoyed on a standalone basis—and I've taken the decision to remove films that only do a brief recap (such as Steven Universe: The Movie) at the beginning that may not give the quality of context necessary for enjoyment. The rationale for this decision is so that viewers can finish this list without having to see a multitude of other episodes and films. End of Evangelion is not included because it is a sequel to an anime series; Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time is included because it's part of a standalone four film series. In addition, series recaps are also not included. These decisions have been made to keep the list consistent and achievable. Please feel free to create your own list if you disagree."

Looper's 45 Best Prison Movies of All Time Ranked

Favs/dislikes: 2:0. BY BARRY LEVITT / MARCH 24, 2022 12:59 AM EST There's something compelling about a look behind bars –- for many movie fans, prison films are their only experience with the world of incarceration. Prison movies take audiences to places unknown, often bringing us face to face with hardened criminals. Many great prison movies take us deeper, showing us things we didn't expect, whether it's a criminal with surprising kindness, or the brutal conditions faced by inmates the world over. Films about prison can transport us to unique and fascinating worlds, and many successfully hold a mirror up to society, exposing our bizarre desires to see people suffer. Great prison movies go deeper than this, of course, exposing the remarkable humanity that can exist in prisoner-of-war camps, jails, and chain gangs. They provide insight into this unknown society, and while there are certainly heavy connotations to the prison movie, many subvert them with wicked, often clever humor. Exploring the genre of prison movies yields rich results, especially in a surprisingly diverse slate of films that cover every facet of a life behind bars. In honor of this fascinating, frightening, thrilling, challenging, and sometimes heartwarming genre, here are the 45 best prison movies of all time ranked.

  25. Los Angeles movies: 50 films that best capture the essence of LA's icon

Los Angeles movies: 50 films that best capture the essence of LA

Favs/dislikes: 2:0. The world knows Los Angeles better than it thinks. Not even counting the many classic satires of Hollywood itself, the vast majority of American-made movies are filmed within the city limits, with the Valley supplying a neighboring every-suburb for all varieties of domestic drama. But which films really nail what it means to live here? Time Out scoured the history of cinema to come up with a ranked list of essential Los Angeles movies—a trove of shady noir villians, sappy romances, sunny comedies and everything in between. (Pardon our occasional cynicism: Hating Los Angeles is definitely a part of loving it.) And please leave your suggestions in the comments box below. We’re aware that this subject, like the city itself, is a sprawl. It’s time to explore the best (and worst) Los Angeles movies.
