Note that in the first year of the Oscars, 1927-1928, actors and actresses were able to be nominated and win for more than one film. Emil Jannings won the Best Actor award for both "The Last Command" and "The Way of All Flesh"; the latter film is considered lost so it is not included on this list. Janet Gaynor won for her performances in three films: "7th Heaven", "Street Angel" and "Sunrise". Also, there have been two occurrences of more than one winner in the same acting category. In 1931-32, there was a technical tie in the Best Actor category resulting in wins for both Wallace Berry in "The Champ" and Fredric March in "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". In 1968 there was a tie in the Best Actress category, with both Katharine Hepburn in "The Lion in Winter" and Barbra Streisand in "Funny Girl" named winners.
