    byNWR.com Exhibited Films

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. By launching the website byNWR.com, Nicolas Winding Refn sought to make available obscure films discovered and restored by himself available to the public for free. byNWR's mission is described as such, "An unadulterated cultural expressway of the arts. Born from a passion for the rare, the forgotten and unknown, byNWR breathes new life into the culturally intriguing, influential and extreme. Quarterly volumes of content divide into three monthly chapters, each featuring a fully-restored film. These cinematic revivals inspire a wealth of original content, drawn together by our special Guest Editors. As we evolve and expand, we will encourage exploration of a wide range of avenues by curators, writers and the engaged public, building a community of those who like to create, to watch, to read, look or listen. In a world of the instant, byNWR takes its time on a tangential line towards the undiscovered where we share, enjoy and look to the future with hope, prosperity and the idea that culture is for everyone." CAKE Songs In Film & TV

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. CAKE are an alternative/pop/rock/country/everything band from Sacramento, CA known for their hits "The Distance," "Rock'n'Roll Lifestyle," "Never There" and "Short Skirt/Long Jacket," among others. They are also renowned for the knack of not just covering, but redefining and - arguably - improving upon a wide variety of well-established songs with their unique style, including Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" and The Muppets song "Mahna Mahna." Filmmakers have taken note of CAKE's one-of-a-kind sound and have featured many of their songs in movies and television episodes. In WALTZ WITH BASHIR's case, there is actually a cover of an original CAKE song, which is a welcome and unusual occurance.

Canada's Top Ten is an annual honour, compiled by the Toronto International Film Festival and announced in December each year to identify and promote the year's best Canadian films. The list was first introduced in 2001 as an initiative to help publicize Canadian films. The list is determined by tabulating votes from film festival programmers and film critics across Canada. Films must have premiered, either in general theatrical release or on the film festival circuit, within the calendar year; although TIFF organizes the vote, films do not have to have been screened specifically at TIFF to be eligible.

  25. Capitolfest 13's icon

    Capitolfest 13

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. Capitolfest is Central New York's premier summer Cinephile film festival—a place to see rarely-shown and newly-discovered films of the silent and early talkie era, held at the historic 1,788-seat movie palace, the Capitol Theatre, in Rome, New York, which opened in December, 1928 as a movie house. Set in the small upstate New York city of Rome (population c.33,000) and regarded by attendees from the U.S., Canada, and Europe as the movie lover’s dream vacation, the weekend festival starts late Friday morning and ends early on Sunday evening. Screenings are arranged by session, with each session essentially comprised of a double feature plus short subjects. Each session contains intermissions and there are generous breaks between sessions (allowing for meals) as well. The philosophy of Capitolfest is that there should be time to savor the films, thus our slogan, “A vacation, not a marathon.”
