Favs/dislikes: 106:1. I compiled this list from many different polls, lists, and awards, using a weighted point system to rank the shorts. I'm defining short as any film with a runtime of 45 minutes or less. This list focuses more on animation than the [url=http://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/brief+encounters/]Brief Encounters[/url] list. It includes many acclaimed animated shorts which are missing from Brief Encounters, most notably The Man Who Planted Trees and Ruka. Favs/dislikes: 54:0. Histoire(s) du cinéma is an 8-part video project begun by Jean-Luc Godard in the late 1980s and completed in 1998. The densest, at 266 minutes the longest, and one of the most difficult of Godard's films, Histoire(s) du cinéma is an examination of the history of the concept of cinema and how it relates to the 20th century; in this sense, it can also be considered a critique of the 20th century and how it perceives itself. The project is considered the longest and most important work of the late period of Godard's career. -
Bravo’s Scariest Movies
Favs/dislikes: 53:0. In 2004, Bravo presented “The 100 Scariest Movie Moments”, celebrating the best in cinematic horrors and thrills. They expanded their original list with “30 Even Scarier Movie Moments” in 2006 and “13 Scariest Movie Moments” in 2009. All 143 movies are listed here. -

Filmography of World History

Global in scope and a practical tool for students and teachers of history, Deanne Schultz's "Filmography of World History: A Select, Critical Guide To Feature Films That Engage The Past" includes description and analysis of over 300 historical films. A companion to Grant Tracey's "Filmography of American History," this critical reference book selects movies that represent aspects of world history from the middle ages through the twentieth century. These films adopt as their subject a wide range of historical events, people and societies of Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Canada, and Latin America. Over half of the entries provide extended analysis of the historical interpretation the film brings to the screen. "Filmography of World History" argues for the potential of feature films to teach us about the past and its reconstruction in academe and popular culture. The book provides several listings of the films, the one shown here is the cross referenced list by time periods. Screening Boredom: The History and Aesthetics of Slow Cinema

A Comprehensive Encyclopedia of Film Noir: The Essential Reference Guide

British Film Noir Guide (369 Films 1937-1964)
Favs/dislikes: 38:0. "This work presents 369 British films produced between 1937 and 1964 that embody many of the same filmic qualities as those "black films" made in the United States during the classic film noir era. This reference work makes a case for the inclusion of the British films in the film noir canon, which is still considered by some to be an exclusively American inventory. The following information is presented: a quotation from the film; title and release date; a one- to five-star rating; production company, director, cinematographer, screenwriter, and main performers; and a plot synopsis with commentary. Appendices categorize films by rating, release date, director and cinematographer and also provide a noir and non-noir breakdown of the 47 films presented on the Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre, a 1960 British television series." NOTE: I created this list in May 2012 and had to add well over 75 titles to iCM, suggesting that there are many obscurities worth checking out. Keaney included 26 of the 47 Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre "films" into this work that he considered to be film noirs or at the very least marginal noirs. The remaining 21 "films" were not included. Sleazoid Express: A Mind Twisting Tour Through the Grindhouse Cinema of Times Square
Favs/dislikes: 34:0. The following list is comprised of all films featured in the book Sleazoid Express. The book focuses on the Grindhouse theaters of Times Square and the exploitation films that were shown there. I've tried to only include films that were actually screened at a theater in Times Square during the time period depicted in the book. So films mentioned in passing as a reference point (The Godfather, Taxi Driver, etc.) were omitted since the intent of the list is to capture the sights and sounds of an era and not every film found in the index. -
