Not a fan of some of his choices, compared to most critics I've seen far less (25%). Although films I've watched recently are also on JR's list, Jonathan Ross's list would be good.
There should be an official ICM list for TV series. And I do not mean the mini-series one, one for shows like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, etc, since I had been seeing some come up on lists they should not be on.
Kasparius, not that I disagree substantially, but your argument doesn't really seem strong.
As presented, it reaches out to make any "critic for many years", who would want to make a list that may appear obscure to some people, immune to criticism, unless performed by someone with profound knowledge of said list, which could only mean realistically that this person is another "critic of many years".
Hell yeah, it seems pretentious. It doesn't mean it is, of course, actually pretentious. J.R. had better things to do than impressing the general public with his knowledge. But again, yes, it seems pretentious, and that's why we are here.
I never said it was flawed. I said the point I was making had nothing to do with that. Of course it is flawless if it is a list of 1000 that Rosenbaum deems essential.
I wonder if this list has a wee mistake. In the past, I found a copy of this list on the Web somewhere and saved a copy. And that copy includes the Jean Gremillion film "The Sky Is Yours." THIS list includes the Jean Gremillion film "Lumiere d'Ete" instead.

If i could drink a bottle rosé wine with Jonathan Rosenbaum and discuss the meaning of a movie from 1895 i would crap my pats and die a happy cat.Warrison
