I've been completing the top 250 on IMDb since 2000. Aware this and Turkish films were appearing and slated as being pumped by local fanboys.
I discovered this in Netflix and it's amazing. Great pace, arcs, development, humour AND dreams, songs and set pieces.

I have such a hard time rating bollywood films like this. This is the 3rd bollywood film that I've seen in the imdb top 250 and by far it was the worst. it's like an interesting mix of American Pie with a dash of The Pursuit of Happyness. It has lots of nice heartfelt moments, and the message is good-ish. But the Principal and Pia's ex-fiance are such charactures. The writing is poor with lots of cliche's such as spoiler

that couldn't it be more predictable. As others have said the start is way too long and the length of the movie speaks for itself. It certainly is fun and light, and it should have handled the spoiler

better, but if you're seriously into film, there is no way you could rank this as the 91st best film of all time. The setting of the final scene was gorgeous however.

Imdb 250 is a gone list. More than 50 % is pure garbage. It's not even a starter's list anymore.

How on earth did this make top 250?!
Incredibly cheesy and not in a good way. Had to watch this in 3 installments as it is far too long for what it is. There is the odd recycled gag, the morals of the film are unoriginal and the film attempts to draw tears from the audience which just seems impossible to me considering how over the top and ridiculous a lot of the serious moments are. This level of cheese combined with attempted serious moments is just contradictory in my opinion. This is my first bollywood and while I did not enjoy most of the music numbers, I decided not to hold them against the film seeing as I'm not used to them.
My outrage at the inclusion of this film in the top 250 is the only thing that has prompted me to leave a comment for once.
That being said, 'Zoobi doobi' is incredibly catchy!

An 8.5... really? I smirked a few times, but found it largely juvenile and unfunny. Also, way too long. It could've had near an hour shaved off it with no major loss to plot.

I think you can watch this movie together with your kid when s/he is getting ready for university to teach him/her about important things and where you stand. :) I love this movie.
