Just such great acting in this one. I especially loved the chemistry between Cruise and Moore, they are unbelievably good when sparring against each other and it really elevates the film. Cruise really excels at portraying the whole "brilliant but chooses to be slovenly and careless" persona to great effect here.
Shockingly, and to the film's unbelievable credit, neither Cruise or Moore's characters ever resort to bashing the other on the basis of sex. More than once you think it is surely coming based on the cantankerous kind of relationship but neither one stoops to that level.
And of course, Nicholson and his close-up monologs are just too good.
Predictable script, right down to the ending. Cruise and Nicholson are the same as they always are; letting them butt heads a bit works for this movie. The movie also raises the question: what happened to Rob Reiner?
