Fun fact: The Alien effects were, for the large part, all performed with a rod puppet. Unfortunately, the shots were carelessly - or hurriedly - integrated, giving them the cheap, mismatched CGI look we all love so very much.

It's amazing that Fincher filmed such a gem with no ready script on his hands and with studio bloodsuckers hanging on his neck. No wonder he still hates his first experience in feature films.

One of the most interesting examples what happens when the studio needs a commercial movie and the director wants to make an art film.

Fatally flawed because of studio interference, David Fincher nonetheless returns to Alien's roots with this stylish story of hopelessness and depravity. The Director's Cut makes a lot more sense than the butchered original.

You can watch this movie without seeing any of the other ones if you want.

It's been a while I saw this movie and I had the impression it wasn't a very good film. At least compared to the previous movies in the series. Now after watching this and the other movies again, I actually find it very entertaining and much better than I remembered. Like the first movie, this is a more serious, more grim and slow paced movie with less action and more suspension and horror.

Why was the alien green at some points? OK, visual effects are dated, but if they couldn't pull it off with CGI, then why didn't they stay with the good old puppets? That would've worked out better i guess!

I watched the Assembly Cut, didn't work, still a mess. I mean, good atmosphere and all but the story was really frustrated me.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I watched the special edition cut of the movie, which is longer (and I think better) than the original.

Alien³, Alien 3, or Alien cubed is a movie that is neither bad nor very good. The cinematography is ingenious for a then early director and the "Dog Alien" is cool, but the only real interesting item is the Queen - carrying Ripley. The rest is rather lackluster. Still, a good movie and another engrossing take on the xenomorph by another regarded filmmaker.

I'm also voting for this film being severely underrated. I think this is the first of the Alien films I've seen. It has some of the same suspense as the first film: one monster that's hunting everyone down, and no real means of defense against it.
The only problem this film has is that nowadays some of the monster effects look very dated, more than those in Alien.

The long version works remarkably well.

Oh, I should correct myself: the full version isn't the "director's" version (in fact Fincher had nothing to do with this new cut) but it still reflects his vision much more efficiently.
