Kinda the Amélie of film-snobbery, I think. I mean, it's not a bad movie, it has cool cinematography and storytelling, and so on, but I just don't get what's all the fuss about. Also, it isn't even funny.
I saw this once with no idea if its background or influences. I kept watching because I couldn't believe the oddity I was seeing. But man, I love French films! I was hooked with the first street scene and stayed till the end. What brilliant camerawork! What fascinating lighting! I loved the main star.
L'excellence!! superb! Great movie in all its aspects acting, directing, script, soundtrack, photo, everything) Since the start with the open credits filmed with such detail. You'll know you're going to see a great film.
I had no idea what I was getting into with this movie but I ended up really enjoying it. Extremely quirky, great lighting, great camera work, it was just a real visual feast.
Jesus. This film made me more terrified of Frenchmen than Stephen King ever could.
Veeeery nice, though, très bien. Probably not for everybody, but yeah. Bit of a Gilliam flair to it (...obviously, considering it was inspired by Brazil and presented as an homage to Gilliam in N.A.).
In theory, this could have been a great movie, but boy does the overacting ruin it. I know it's supposed to be that way most of the time, but for me, it makes it a very unbearable movie to watch. If only they made this a more serious, thrilling movie instead of the slapstick it turned out to be.
