Good Lord. overly long and melodramatic to the point of suffocation. This film is like a 3-hour long TV soap, I can't believe India sent this to the Oscars ahead of Company or Kannathil Muthammittal.
8/10
"Devdas" is a visual stunner and magnum opus of Sanjay leela Bhansali's film making and it never loses its steam in its grandeur and beautifully crafted set and capturing of emotions feel like timeless tale even if it has some minor flaws in over the top dramatization in some scenes and had soap opera feellike to it.
Romeo and Juliet retold melodramatically with colorful, elaborate sets and costumes- and no swordplay. It's visually interesting, but the plot is weak and slooow at times.
This film encapsulates everything that is wrong with Bollywood of the past decade. It is filled jarring, glittering, superfluous, gigantic and ugly sets. Between Sharukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Jackie Shroff, there is enough hamming going on to fill the state of Denmark and the director has no sense of tone or pacing or framing.
Not worthy of any list. Movies like this one spoil the reputation of Indian cinema. Directors like Satyajit ray and Hrishikesh Mukherjee must be turning in their graves >(
