Good classic action movie. Always like to watch it again. Willis is a cool hero, Alan Rickman's performance makes one of the best action-movie-villains ever... and Alexander Godunov's small but hilarious and very cool role is always one of the things I first think about when this movie comes to my mind. Nice!
Thesis - Die Hard is the most influential action film of all time. Its formula was used many, many times, with critics (and I'm thinking studios) calling the imitators "Die Hard in ______". It pushed action films towards everyman action stars and away from the athletic superheroes of the 80s. It was Bruce Willis' first movie success and Alan Rickman's first film. They kind of went on to big things. Even Reginald VelJohnson traded the movie's success into sitcom stardom. Looking at it again, I can see how it also brought a lot of texture to the American action film, borrowing from film noir, European and Asian cinema. The lens flares alone deserve a special prize. It looks lush. And its look, I think, is just as much a part of its success as its characters, plot, and cool stunts.
YIPPEE KI-YAY [what are the rules re:cursing on here?]! Definitely the highest rewatch value of any big-budget action movie, ever, and the quintessential 80s and Christmas film.
I watched this today for the first time. On almost every scene I thought: gosh, I've seen that in so many movies before! But of course, when Die Hard came out, all of it was new. I wish I'd seen it before watching all the rip-offs.
Nose bleed. Prior watchings of this (including on TV), he has a nosebleed in the vent shaft. Last night it was a clean nose/filtrum, yet the film rating (film was on Sky cinema, listed a 15).
Separately, Fox confirmed this is a Christmas movie
My favourite film. Definitely the best action film ever, as other users have said, but Hans Gruber is the best villain ever as well.
Still find it funny that it was originally written as Commando 2 for Schwarzenegger but he turned it down. I much prefer Schwarzenegger, but I don't think this movie would have been the same without Bruce Willis.
