Not a great film - too stiff and stagy - but one of the earliest biopics with sound, and a good example of what Hollywood considered a prestige drama in the post-silent/pre-Code era. 6.5/10

I must be missing something. Just what the heck is this movie about? I loved the costumes but that's about the best I can say for it.

God, Arliss is awful. I even like old-fashioned acting, but he is beyond the limit. If you don't believe me, check out The Green Goddess.
