I actually thought the first half of the movie was the best part. It didn't need to have an actionpacked ending. The documentary style was really interesting.

Smashes styles and preconceptions to pieces, and spits them back at you in true confrontational style. Powerful, emotional sci-fi action at it's best, truly original and gutsy. The evils of bureaucracy and apartheid have rarely been so sharply and uniquely defined.

Good movie. But i dislike the director wants to make it like a documentary and suddenly, change the style of filming.

Probably the best sci-fi I have seen so far. Yes, the movie is highly unpleasant, because it throws the truth smack in your face about how governments, corporations and even sheeple in general really are. The director really succeeded in making this movie about the story, the social problems, the hypocrisy of mankind. Yes it resulted in a rather depressing movie, but that says more about our society than about this movie i'm afraid. From me, this movie gets a double AA must see. Not for the action, not for the special effects, but because the director decided not to do a hollywood sugarcoat.

District 9 is the most overpraised film of the decade. The writing is god-awful. Simply recreating the conditions of apartheid and then plopping literal aliens in the place of blacks doesn't count as political commentary. It's pretty amateurish. Not to mention the film completely devolves into a mediocre action movie in the second half.

The aesthetic style is unlike any other kind of Sci-fi I've seen and Blomkamp gets full credit for that. There's also a wonderful, grounded sort of reality that permeates the film which makes it seem both visceral and realistic. The world building is also on par, you can tell they spent some serious time thinking about what would actually happen if an alien spaceship parked itself over Jo'burg for an inordinate amount of time.

Thematically, it's more about the overall South African experience than it is about Apartheid. I love the mockumentary style on this, and the Prawns are wonderful creations, made all the better by the CGI never focusing on them unduly.

The concept is very original and the movie is good. Some character elements are just as cliche as in movies that are far less appreciated.

I'm not even a big fan of SciFi movies and I had no idea what to expect from this.. But HOLY CRAP, what a great movie. The story line, the acting, the imagery, everything. GREAT Movie!

One of the most realistic Sci-fi movies about aliens I have ever seen. At some parts it was disgusting and even ugly, but it felt real. You could almost believe this was happening ( to a certain extent of course). If you have a strong stomach then you should definitely watch this.

highly unpleasant. the story starts out highly promising, and the setting offers so much intrigue, but about half way through the film things quickly turned dull. others will probably love where the film took it, i for one didn't. the breakneck pace was exhausting and the action i was a little dull, and by the end i found myself somewhat depressed with how the film turned out.

i'm not saying don't watch the film, in fact the opposite, i highly recommend that everyone watch the film and judge for themselves, chances are you may end up loving it for its innovation and interesting take on sci-fi. personally it was just unpleasant throughout, and by the end i was happy that it was all over.

to summarize: it was a great film, but i hated it... if that makes any sense. 5/10
