Of course it had an anti-Catholic twist. That was actual history. Elizabeth's father, Henry VIII, broke from the Church and enforced his will with force. Her sister, Mary, aka Bloody Mary, returned to Protestantism with enough bloodshed to get an unpleasant nickname. Elizabeth returned to Protestantism but wreaked a bit of havoc of her own. (Plus, Spain thought they had the right to rule England because Mary's husband was King Philip II of Spain.)

Successful sequel, Cate Blanchett embodies the role perfectly! The setting is authentic, the costumes are marvelous. What I liked most is how the camera was showing the Queen from a very high perspective so you can see her coloured dresses like a spot on the marble floor of the palace. Excellent movie!
