English subtitles are on KG. Here's a better stream that matches up perfectly with them: https://zoowoman.website/wp/movies/en-la-selva-no-hay-estrellas/

At school, Peruvians learn that the country is divided in three geographical zones: the jungle, the mountain, and the coast.

Robles Godoy has taken that almost didactical structure to explore his character, alegorically named "The man", in his relationship with the world. Heavily influenced by Antonioni, but also by Eisenstein, Robles is not
interested by the bourgeois problems. The uneasiness, the fury of his character is related to the whole world and, as in other Robles films, nature is hostile to the white man.The story begins as fable, with this man who wants to steal the gold from an old woman in the jungle. But then, while maintaining a strong allegorical bent, drifts toward a more complex thing, using a labyrinth like narrative that goes back and forth.

This film was invisible for 35 years. When asked about it, Robles would say he didn't have a copy, and that the negatives had remained with the laboratory. Since he couldn't pay for their maintenance, he said, maybe they had been destroyed. Besides, "Alex", the Argentine laboratory where the film was processed, had their vaults destroyed by fire in 1979.

A few years ago, however, someone asked about it in Moscow, where the film won a gold medal. They had a copy and sent a non restored digital copy to Peru where it was revised by Robles to circulate later in cine-clubs
