Those children have no idea how lucky they were to have such a caring, patient teacher. Coming from the 1960's where they packed close to 50 kids in my classes in grade school, I know how much I missed and how blessed these children are. It's only a fair documentary, really but it is a wonderful tribute to teachers everywhere.
Truman Capote once criticized Jack Kerouac's work, saying "that's not writing, that's typing." That's kind of how I felt about this film, watching bits and pieces of a teacher's final year in a one-room elementary school in rural France - it wasn't filmmaking, it was letting a camera roll. The teacher is a good and caring one, and the kids are cute, but no one did much to make it into a movie or connect it with the wider world. You can get almost the same experience by sitting in on your kid's class at their school. 5.5/10
