Absolutely hilarious. It's a satire of sci-fi-series, nerds and actors and it really does its job - so many great references to things that are so very true.
Basically it's the story of the cast of a formerly very successful sci-fi-series; they are not very pleased with their present situation - until they encounter some REAL aliens who beg them to save their people.
I won't even begin to name all of the flaws, characteristics and facts about such series that are being made fun of in this movie - it's a lot of them and it's extremely funny. I don't think you have to be a sci-fi-fan or a nerd to enjoy this film - but I'm a bit of both and I just love it.
The cast as a whole is amazing - I still have to emphasize Alan Rickman's performance. Whether he is pissed off by the spectacle about the sci-fi-role he considers lowbrow or he's rolling his eyes about a dim-witted remark of one of his co-stars - he is just hilarious and absolutely brilliant.
I didn’t think I’d like this movie at all but I was surprised. This movie was hilarious! I loved every second of it. You really don’t have to be a huge fan of Sci-Fi entertainment to enjoy this film but it definitely helps.
Now I can stop saying the only good Tim Allen movie is Redbelt. There's this too. How to describe Galaxy Quest is not an obvious thing. Yes, it's a Star Trek spoof, but it's also the greatest Trek movie never made. It feels like it's going to be a parody, but it delivers on the kind of space opera adventure it's meant to poke fun at. It's about the has-been actors of a cult sf show, but it's made as well as any SF film out there. I guess it works because it doesn't slavishly stick to Star Trek or its cast, but creates its own world based on the same kind of thing. It holds up, and has a lot of heart in addition to laughs and exciting set pieces. A fun, minor classic that I could stand to re-watch now and again.
I had a big ol' goofy grin watching this movie. I would also like to point out that this is, strange to say, the best acting Tim Allen has ever done anywhere.

Great movie. Too bad they didn't cast Jim Carrey as one of the Thermians though.Videl
