Can we all just laugh at how ridiculous that song "Colorblind" by Daniel Po sounds compared to the rest of the soundtrack? That has to be the worst thing about this movie.
Morgan Freeman's amazing, but the rugby scenes were pretty blah. No context, no suspense, no discussion of strategy, just 30 guys ramming in to each other over and over.
Disappointed. Eastwood's work is decidedly becoming increasingly formulaic and half-assed. The second half is especially boring and predictable. Knowing his audience would be primarily American and completely impermeable to rugby as a game, he doesn't even pretend to get into the game so we're left with 45 mn of guys kicking a ball and climbing on each other alternating with shots of Morgan Freeman, over soft music. It fails miserably to lift your spirit when everyone is cheering.
Eastwood's historical, political and, ultimately, inspirational film spawned from the life of Nelson Mandela is an earnest accounting of determination and grit on the battlefield of rugby and the parallels therein to the rise of South Africa from the shackles of apartheid. While it's not one to win any acting accolades, there is a lot to be liked in this film notable for its heart and spirit that doesn't tip into the world of lamentable sap. Recommended.
Invictus is a strange sort of political biopic, and a strange sort of sports movie, seeing as it blends the two. Morgan Freeman plays Nelson Mandela who, in the early days of his presidency, sees the national rugby team as a unifying element to bring his divided country together AND put it back on the map after years of isolation. He's great and gets all the best lines. Matt Damon plays the captain of the rugby team called out to take a hated and under-performing team and make it a national symbol around which South Africans can rally around. There are almost two movies there, but they mix smoothly and create unusual stakes for a sports story. As with every Clint Eastwood-directed film I've ever seen, Invictus is a bit long-ish and slow-paced, but not boring, in large part thanks to its characters (including a fun subplot about Mandela's mixed race security detail). There's one (original?) song in there that's quite jarring (and reprised at the end), but it's my only real complaint.

Yet again another movie that so called 'critics' praised, when in reality it is sub-par.akuma587

Not boring at all. Great story, even if you don't know much of rugby. 8/10Dieguito

This is quite boring. Except for Damon and Freeman there isn't something worth watching. 5.5/10Earring72
