I was not expecting much from this film, but now that I've seen it I think it's astonishing. Much better film than Flowers of War (which is about the same subject).
I have no idea if its historically accurate, but I liked the film from the beginning to the end.
Complete and utter shit.
I got my fill of historical inaccuracies, anachronisms and sentimental garbage that seems to be present in every film about this subject matter. The unauthenticity was so palpable I almost bought into it.
They even managed to bastardize Prince Asaka, a historical figure that would be so easy to turn into a compelling character instead of a cookie-cutter villain. The portrayal of the Japanese is so horrible and cliched overall with the mandatory good guy in the mix.
Second Sino-Japanese War is one of my favorite wars so I am still waiting for a proper filmatization of RoN.
to see which of your friends have seen this movie!
