Incredible film, with fantastic performances by Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams. They both deserved Oscars.

I don't know where to begin when describing the greatness of this film... the acting, the plot, the music, the cinematography, the whole feel. It is highly depressing, but there are a few notes of positivity throughout the film so it doesn't kill it. Just an impactful film.

Can't beat it, I just can't beat it. I can't beat thinking this was a very boring film.

Didn't connect at all.

I understand the importance of showing the simplistic nature of such times of grief and mourning. I appreciate the effort, but the devastating subject matter doesn't make good on a lack of interestingly developed characters or good acting. Yes, sorry, but there were really awfully acted scenes in there.

I shut up now DX

Oh my gosh...
Okay, personally, maybe the scene where...something happens...to someone's house might have been too much, but I get it. And it doesn't feel cheap that...a certain character behaves the way he does.
But most importantly, this movie very much teaches you about the importance of not being selfish, respecting the people you care about, and most importantly, proper communication with the people you love.
I've watched hundreds of movies, and only now I find one that catches those "people talking over each other" situation that often happen in real life conversations. Good stuff.
Overall, very good movie, perhaps a tad bit too long, but definitely, absolutely soul crushing from beginning to end.

Much has been said about this movie, rightly so. I’ll just say this: watching a story of unprocessed grief is just so hard. You want the best for these people, and you know they’re trying their best, but it’s just not happening.

The acting aside, the editing and dialogue make this such a great movie. It feels like a natural way to tell their stories even though, afterward, you can see why it was carefully crafted. Really well told.

Just sad (in the same level of Ladri di Biciclette)

A tragedy that never feels tragic, just plodding around in its own self-satisfaction. I wanted to punch the script in the face.

Casey Affleck deserves every amount of praise for this amazing performance. Everything else is at best, just okay.

Doesn't really address the loss of life in any kind of unique or profound way. It's nothing but watching a somber Casey Affleck walking around New England for 2 1/2 hours.

A profound film. If you've ever experienced grief or sadness, or ever found yourself depressed and numb to the world, then this film connects deeply. The acting is impeccable. It is full of restraint but explosive at the most unexpected of times, and always completely earnest in its delivery. The cinematography reminded me of Breaking the Waves with its bleakness. The music is also excellent, I was particularly moved by the Handel oboe concerto chorus.
