The mood in this movie reminded me very much of the mood in trilogy "Ningen no joken". A very touching story. It captured my attention from the start.

One if the best movies I've seen in a long time. I cried through most of the movie. Besides showing the dedication teachers have in general, it shows the way war and politics can alter ones direction in life. Truly wonderful.

Wonderful masterpiece! 1954 must be the greatest year ever for Japanese cinema. This movie, Seven Samurai from Kurosawa and Sansho the Bailiff from Mizoguchi!!!

@Crinderman, they went fox hunting in a village 100km from Tokyo, and I think they were hunting bat eared foxes!
