Slow and full of poetic dialogue, but beautiful in its visual style and in its spoken imagery. The idea of sacrifice repeats in different shapes. We quite enjoyed it, and found it almost trance-like to watch.
Not as great as his other movies, but still worth watching
Although the movie had a great direction of photography and it, the end is quite subjective
because we never get to known either if the world was "healed" after the ritual or if Alexander was simply a delirious insane man all along
and, in my opinion, the fact that we don't have a solution for the plot, makes it is one of those movies worth discussing, recapturing details and drawing our own conclusions.
With that said, I agree with people here saying it's somewhat boring, it's one of those movies that gets better after you finish and give it a thought.
An aging intellectual must have sex with a witch to save the world from total nuclear holocaust, because the postman told him to. When it succeeds, he expresses his gratitude by losing his mind and burning down his summer home.
Now imagine a movie with this plot that's also dead boring, and I've just saved you two and a half hours.
