Loved it. A bit of your typical love story but played out very nicely and fresh. I cried and laughed and fell in love with the cinematography. Definitely recommend it.
As someone who read the book beforehand, I don't exactly know how to feel about this movie. The film literally follows the book's setup, but it leaves out a lot of important details, or just compresses each year/chapter into a few minutes. Although I'm glad to see some of the better lines from the book were included, it seemed so rushed. A lot of what, in the book, made Emma and Dexter and the other characters (many who were either left out or not properly explored) so great was left out, and many of the personal thoughts in the book that showed Emma's and Dexter's ambitions/hopes/feelings, etc weren't incorporated. It would of been great to have the other relationships that Emma and Dexter had been explored. I really want to like this movie since the book was so great, but I don't think I do :(
Actually, I haven't read the book, but after seeing the movie and reading satisfythecrave's comment, I want to.
It seems like such an interesting plot. It has the best of a romance and the worst of real life.
My only critique was that I wanted to see some details be more developed, I'm glad to see it has some sense, even to someone who read the book.
On the other hand, how could it not seem rushed, it's hard to fit 23 years into 107min..
I didn't regret going to the movies to see this. The book was however better. But it's indeed very hard to fit such a long timeline into just one movie. It was rushed, but I think they did ok.
I like the twist and the ending but the story as a whole isn't quite engaging. What kind of best friend makes a contact to each other only a day in a year?
Beautifully made, I absolutely loved it. I hadn't read the book, so I wasn't at all prepared for such a heartbreaking end, but I guess it just made the movie even better.

They don't contact each other once in a year, the 'One Day' refers to the day they originally met and the book/movie focuses in on that day each year. They mention often how they spend time together and contact each other during the year.

Yay. Second to check. A good movie, not a popcorn romcom but an adult drama romance.taylorleigh

It dragged on for way too long. Why hide a plot point in '89 that you know was going to play a main role throughout the entire movie?satisfythecrave
What plot point are you referring too?
