"A Japanese fairy tale meets commedia dell'Arte. All in white, the naïf Pierrot lies in a wood. Doo-wop music plays as he rises, stares about, and reaches for the moon. Although music abounds and the children of the wood are there at play, Pierrot is melancholy and alone. Harlequin appears, brimming with confidence and energy. He conjures the lovely Colombina. Pierrot is dazzled. But can the course of true love run smooth?"
Found only a version on YouTube with soundtrack "Goodbye Horses" by Q. Lazzarus - amazing result, fits perfect!

After so many bad short films, this is a delight to watch, really impressed it was filmed in 1950. Was this the inspiration behind some music video in the 1980s, it looks familiar, but I cannot bring it to mind?
I think it's important to watch both the '72 and '79 releases. Regardless of the different cuts and soundtracks, it's still so easy to fall in love with this film!

It was filmed in 1950, released in '72, then re-released in '79 re-edited with a new soundtrack.
