Worth a watch, thanks mostly to a great cast and phenomenal CGI that holds up remarkably well to this day. The post-apocalyptic world is well realised, with the mix of medieval elements and modern technology working very well, however the script definitely could have been better and the climax is slightly disappointing. It's fun though, and make sure to look out for the fleeting appearance of King Joffrey.
I don't think anyone ever expected a dragon apocalypse, so Reign of Fire scores some points on premise alone. It's also got a pretty good genre action cast, with Christian Bale and Gerard Butler as community leaders protecting a human stronghold (for Trekkies, Alexander Siddig is also there) and Matthew McConaughey as an American soldier with some experience and useful knowledge when it comes to slaying dragons. These beasts look pretty good and having burned the world, there's a Medieval feel to what's left. What hurts it is the structure. We start with an origin (a waste of Alice Krige) before plunging into cheap infodump narration, and McConaughey shows up as a main character only in the second act. It's clumsy. Never mind the slim world building that makes the plans and results highly suspect. Pretty watchable, but fails to realize its full potential.
Post-apocalyptic dragons and noided bald McConaughey is a match made in heaven. Except for some of the climax, I thought the effects held up pretty nicely, the CGI artists showing some restraint compared to other blockbusters from 2002.
Just two artist on the soundtrack, with two flamin' hits:
Fire - Jimi Hendrix
Burn - Mad at Gravity
I enjoyed this one. Not among my favourites but still pretty entertaining; Gerard Butler and Christian Bale were great as always, the effects were cool, the story was nice.
Plus, this film deserves some extra credit for being the only one I like Matthew McConaughey in (so far) :) I could not believe that was him; he should keep that look :)

A 2002 movie with better CGI dragons than game of thrones now. Great movie, weak ending.ynrozturk
