If new New Jack City and Dredd (the 2012 version) had a baby, it would be this action packed martial arts masterpiece. The fight choreography was nothing short of amazon. Loved the dark atmosphere of the entire film.
The story and the plot -- weak at best.
But if you like martial arts movies and can handle the often over the top violence, then this movie is for you.

Technically, it's a real achievement. Beautiful action sequences. If that's what you're into, the movie is perfect. If you're into such things as believable characters, sensible plot, interesting themes, you'll probably be disappointed.

Great direction, cool style, and, taken alone, any single fight scene is mindblowing. The problem however is that they're exactly the same for the entire movie. And after an hour of people punching each other in the face a hundred times and grunting I was just about done. Admittedly this is a problem I have with a lot of martial arts films, so maybe it's just my lack of knowledge that results in me not understanding the nuances of the fight scenes, but by the twentieth back flip of The Raid everything just seemed kind of dull and lifeless.

The Raid (2011).
Gritty & relentless Indonesian action film with minimal plot but near constant gunplay, weapon fights & martial arts. 8/10.
