Yet another boring Flemish melodrama. The movie is almost exclusively composed of scenes with people yelling, crying or fighting, sometimes all at once. The filmmaker constantly tries so hard to shock the audience but it never works because the movie is so boring and every character is unlikable. The movie is filled with random, pointless scenes and pretty much the whole runtime you're thinking "Get on with it!".
The ending was very obvious and easy to predict. Once again the filmmaker tries to shock you but it just ends up being unintentionally funny.
The message of the film seems to be that no matter how much help you give them, problem children in an institution will never overcome their problems and always remain/turn into giant assholes, rapists and murderers. Which seems pretty odd as a message in an award bait film, or just any film.
Flemish people seem to be obsessed with making a genre of film that they're just absolutely terrible at. A drama just doesn't work if every scene is about unlikable people being miserable. Get your fucking head checked Flanders! 1 month 3 weeks ago
