Notwithstanding its ridiculous premise, The Voyage Home proves to be an awfully good time. Its lighthearted attitude is so very different from the more seriously toned entries, i.e. Wrath of Khan. But what takes the cake is Chekov and all his "russkie" antics.

It's rather hilarious because if after watching the first 3 movies someone told you that the 4th was going to be all about "saving the whales" then you would have probably died of laughter. I still can't believe that it manages to be better and more entertaining than the 1st and 3rd movies. Nimoy does a spectacular job of directing the movie and arguably knows his audience better than Wise did with the 1st film and learns from his own missteps when directing the 3rd.

More of a comedy about fish out of water, "the one with the whales" has good moments for each member of the cast, which is a big plus. And it is funny.
