A potentially strong film of reality hidden from the gaze of an innocent, yet inquisitive, child is marred by an ending succumbing to countless Nazi-cliches and emotional masturbation. This otherwise interesting theme is played out during Holocaust (for simplicity and ease of presenting a tangible Evil), but cannot avoid the trite Hays-like finger pointing spoiler

, which then comes off too simplistic for a subjective film unaware of these brutalities. Thus, the ending merely taps into previous ground to invoke cheap feelings of disgust, though this might be the only disgusting thing to take away. A brave film would have spoiler

Normally I cry at almost every sad thing in a movie. This time I didn't. I guess I was too shocked that something so cruel is possible. Afterwards thinking back about the movie my eyes got wet. Definitely a good movie that makes you think

I agree with EagleEye, it was spectacular but they should have a foreign version where they speak German and Polish and stuff. Also check out Life is Beautiful for another excellent movie on the Holocaust.

I think this movie is a bit underrated. The ending is quite tragic and that is what i miss in movies nowadays. People think that life is a fairytale, and its not.

Life is wonderful sometimes and other times it is horrible. This movie shows that life is horrible some times.
