And what if... what if we start to adapt 40's stories as they were made at these times? For instance, without sex scenes, constant music and beautiful colors?

There's something brutally honest yet 'symphonic' about the intimate relationships in Neil Jordan's films, but of what I've seen, this is one of his least engaging works as a director.

As a remake of the original done by Denorah Kerr and Van Johnson in 1955, this does a fairly nice job. Of course being done in 1999, they had to add the obligatory sex scenes and some special effects to spice it up. Changing the ending was a bit of a surprise though and made for an interesting twist.
