Little bit underwhelmed after all the hype this received. The most interesting parts are in the blurb, while the film itself just winds all that out in full.
Very odd story, transferred into an excellent documentary. I love that it blurs the line between interviews and dramatisations and that it doesn't have all of the answers at the end.
Caught a preview screening this afternoon - and glad to say it's well worth your time when it gets a full release - it's the bizarre true story of a French con-artist who pretends to be a Texan teenager missing for four years, fools the police and the FBI and is taken in by the missing boy's family even though he obviously isn't him. Very clever film featuring some seemingly very stupid people, which questions levels of truthfulness in life and in film, and has a smart twist in the tale.
I find it funny that you typically dislike documentaries because you like narratives, but the documentary is literally about the lack of narratives in real life. Haha.
It's a fun movie. Completely made from the beginning about focusing on our perceptions of truth and how we can all be led down the rabbit hole to a dead end. Even when the only thing staring us in the face is that there is no narrative. There are only a bunch of people with their own emotions, motivations, and stories that lead to an extremely entertaining tale.

So unbelievable and layered with twists that it has to be true. Of course, truth is stranger than fiction.jhhayes
