The Manchurian Candidate is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful movie I've ever known in my life.

I really enjoyed a couple of the early scenes. The brainwashing dream sequences were interesting to watch, and the press conference with the television screens was very cleverly done. I did feel the plot got a little loose towards the end, but the climax was a tad unorthodox, which was a pleasant surprise.

The tension, mystery and acting were spot on. Sinatra is good as a buttoned-up but increasingly paranoid major, but IMO the two stand-out performances were Laurence Harvey's and Angela Lansbury's. There were two very strange plot coincidences spoiler that left me disappointed when everything was involved, as if they'd been put in as red herrings even though they make very little sense.

I always postponed watching this film, suspecting it to be McCarthyist propaganda. What a pleasant surprise.

The ultimate political thriller. This is my favorite movie of all time.

communists are evil, god bless usa bla bla bla.. nothing new there.

story-wise, the movie starts off strong but goes downhill fast after the midpoint. If you are trying to create a sound story, make it waterproof. The guy finds out that the protagonist is brainwashed but lets him go to a honeymoon. Then just dismantles the conditioning simply saying "you are free". ooook....

Alltogether this is a failed movie. It could be much, much better. If you want good paranoid political thrillers, watch pakula. especially parallax view.

It works on its own as a solid thriller, but nearly 60 years on, this is also a fascinating cold war time capsule.

Absolutely amazing. Lansbury was sinister. I never thought that I could ever dislike her, but her character in this is so hateful that you wish for her death in the end. A wonderful and heart-wrenching film you must see.

Really an excellent film. Simply the best political thriller I've ever seen. Angela Lansbury is downright sinister and steals every scene she is in. I'd always known that it was a controversial film but I didn't really understand why. This film was literally released into theaters within the 12-day period of the Cuban Missile Crisis. That is controversial enough considering its subject matter. Then splash in a few anti-communist characters who are the exact opposite and you have a formula for delicious controversy.

Brainwashing Communists? Just like spending 2 hours in Rush Limbaugh's head.
