I was expecting the great performance we get from Terry O'Quinn, but I was not expecting such high class writing! One small but representative scene shows the Stepfather speaking with a school administrator, the two discussing the state of the stepdaughter. Overlooking the conversation is a framed portrait of Ronald Reagan. It seemed a bit cheesy (as do some of the slasher one-liners in the last act), but all the peak Reagan-era worship of some new manifest destiny trad lifestyle shows how and why some kind of psychopath would want to seize that lifestyle for himself, especially with violence.

Somewhat enjoyable as a B-movie. Atmospheric cinematography. Full of plotholes.pallmallandcoke
