This movie has a wild background, as introduced in the beginning by one of the survivors of the catastrophic wreck of the eponymous ship years before. They were apparently filming a film to be called White Thunder when the ship they were using to hunt seals exploded from the charges they would use to blast the ice.
While this is quite an interesting setup, there is not much else going on for the film. Occasionally there are interesting bits of spectacle in the sport of seal hunting (somewhat reminiscent of De Seta's Sea Countrymen), but they are just killing innocent seals so they don't garner much empathy.
