The ending is great, the high point of this uneven trilogy.

Critiques of the romance here (and throughout the trilogy) are fair, it's downright weird. But while not masterpieces, I enjoyed these movies overall and they look great.

This actor Kōji Tsuruta playing enigmatic Sasaki Kojirō was really awesome. Gave strength to the film.

Worth it for the elaborate and expertly shot climax.

The story picks up from where the first one ends. Mushashi goes on his quest to attain the true way of a samurai. Otsu's selling handmade fans by the same bridge where Mushashi left with a short message carved into the bridge's wooden handle informing her that he'd be back once he succeeded in mastering himself. Now Mushashi has been challenging and defeating various notable fencing schools or dojos. Blah Blah Blah... Anyhow, I found the plot very dull and boring. The fighting scenes are, to be frank, ridiculous. With a fine touch of corny philosophical comments here and there; tops with a triangle love yields exactly this movie.

Among the least engaging Criterion Collection films I've ever seen. A well-directed nothing.

Very clichéd. Every girl Mifune comes across seemed to be floored by him - seriously? Come on!!
