This was intolerable. The book was not much to rave about but it was far better and far shorter. The director took far too many liberties with the script, scale, and storylibe. It amazes me that this film qualifies as a "favorite" for over 200 members. I would recommend the book over this since one could probably finish reading the 200 page book in less time than this 2 and a half hour movie.
As a film it has very little substance but Albert Brooks and Michael Douglas play well off of one another. I loved this movies and this is the first time Ryan Reynolds did not piss me off.
If you saw the western edit of the film you have seen both Red Cliff I and II. The condensed western covers the entire story it is just missing some negligible parts in terms of the story such as a tiger hunt and the birth of a horse. But if you really want to get the full experience I would not it's a waste of your time to view both Chinese releases.
