Honestly, I was expecting it to be bland and formulaic with the whole "opposites attract" theme, but it was actually quite enjoyable. The plot is pretty meh, but the main characters carry it throughout, it really felt like they had chemistry and was not a forced romance. Also, the animation is pretty nice, specially the fire characters. Best project delivered by Pixar since Coco, in my opinion.

It feels like a long episode of a bad Disney teen show. The idea was not bad, but the execution was terrible. All the new characters are very forgettable. I actually like the ending though, it was very emotional in a good way.

It's not a bad film. There's nothing special about it either. It just feels like an attempt to keep selling Frozen merchandise, and no interest in actually telling a compelling story.

Being mexican, I was worried the representation of Mexican culture would be too stereotypical. Turns out, this movie nails it perfectly. What a stunningly beautiful movie, both artistically and story-wise. This is right up there with the best Pixar movies.

This is a nice adaptation from a great book. I think they could have used a few more episodes to give it a better pace, since I felt some events at different points of the story and particularly at the end were a little bit rushed, but in general they did a good job cramming everything into just eight episodes. What I missed the most was the character development, because I feel that's what makes the book something very special: you care about the protagonists and absolutely despise the villains. They just jump out of the page. Don't get me wrong, most of the performances are excellent, particularly Ian McShane as Waleran and Hayley Atwell as Aliena, both of them getting Golden Globe nominations and deservedly so. Matthew Mcfayden as Philip was great as well. The only real letdown was the guy playing Jack, who just did a terrible job and that's a major flaw since Jack is such an important character. Maybe a few more episodes to explain a little more about their lives, their backgrounds, the way they reacted to certain events and how they affected them would have made this series as special as the book. Instead, it is just a nice TV mini series and nothing else. I definitely recommend reading the book first, but if you just want to watch the series I'm sure you will enjoy it nevertheless.
