In this documentary-meets-food porn production you get a behind-the-scenes look in Osamu Tomita's ramen shop, considered the best ramen shop in Japan. As you are swept into the world of ramen, you get insight on its history, a few different types of ramen shops aside from Tomita's, and the passion and thought processes that many of its chefs put into making it.
If you like food and you like culture, this documtenary may very well be worth your time. There are a few segments with close-ups of ramen in slow-motion accompanied by dramatic music, but it feels more comedic than pretentious. It pokes fun at cliches like that a few times throughout.
Don't make the mistake of going into a viewing of this hungry. Better yet, don't go into this without having recently eaten ramen. I had a bowl of ramen right before watching this, and towards the end of it I was hungry again.
This film was released the same year the martial arts list featured on this website was published, which is most likely the reason this film is not to be found on it. It would seem the list won't receive any (official) updates, which is a shame, considering some great martial arts films have been released since 2008, Ip Man included.
