truly sad film showing how awful it was for a man to be homosexual in the early 20th century. Recommend it

Really interesting 1/2 silent, 1/2 talkie film. More an educational experience than an entertaining movie.

Wow, seeing the magnetism between Fred Astaire and Ginger in their first performance together is amazing. Overall the movie isn't too entertaining with the gratuitous but bland dance scenes.

P.S. Dolores Del Rio is HOT

this is a great romantic comedy! If you are like me and hate awful chick flicks but love great ones then watch this because it had my boyfriend and I laughing the whole way through!

Couldn't make it through the whole film because it dragged on and was incredibly boring. Someone should just make a version with all the most racist bits for people like me who were interested in the controversial aspect.

This movie is a true classic and I am offended it hasn't gotten more recognition as a great film.

Also, Gary Cooper is like a sexier Indiana Jones. Just sayin'

I've seen a few silent films and have learned to generally avoid them as the entertainment value is typically very low.

That being said...THIS MOVIE IS A GLARING EXCEPTION!!

Seriously, this movie is funny, cute, gripping, and flat out fun to watch. If you are ever curious about silent films and want to see a "watchable" one, then this is it!

The most adorable and most offensive of the Fred Astaire movies I've seen! Despite some glaring downfalls, this is definitely my favorite; Ginger and Fred's romance is so humorous and the songs are beautiful. Also, most of the humor is timeless and I had a huge grin on my face most of the way through!

WARNING: There's a scene with Fred Astaire in blackface and this movie also has a TERRIBLE ending. Don't let those aspects ruin the experience because overall it is quite wonderful!!

I am from seattle and had heard lots of references to this movie as a result. Finally got around to seeing it and found it to be rather boring.

Just saw "an affair to remember" tonight as well. I feel like this movie was a watered down, less interesting and less romantic version of that.

I'm honestly appalled this movie has gotten so little recognition...it is a great comedy and great comedies are hard to come by

If you can't appreciate the comedy then appreciate the satire, if you can't appreciate the satire then appreciate the pure ballsiness if Sasha Baron Cohen. If you can appreciate any of those then at least appreciate how beautifully he brought out others' prejudices when they attempted to hide them!

This movie has a lot of disturbing bits to it but I think it will go down in history.

Also...its fuckin hilarious, ya'll need to lighten up

LOVE this movie! This is the rom-com that all rom coms try to be!

Fred Astaire is by far the most charming actor I've ever seen on screen.

Perhaps people had built it up too much but I found the movie not only minimally entertaining/funny but also lacking depth.

Specifically, I was really hoping all the little details would add up perfectly like "dude where's my car?" but only a few were explained. I don't look for depth in movies but I do expect some amount of it enough to make the movie tie together nicely.

What this film lacked in depth it made up for in entertainment.

Couldn't say it affected me greatly but it was fun to watch and I'd watch it again

I have recently developed a deep appreciation for old movies. Silent films can be highly entertaining and meaningful (see "Metropolis") but I found this film to honestly be terribly put together and awfully boring.

Nosferatu was really creepy looking which is what attracted me to seeing it in the first place.

The filmmakers deserve credit for being pioneers in their field and for contributing to cultural history but not for being exceptional artists...for during or after their era.
