This is spectacular. How had I never seen this before?
And I, for one, am a fan of the jazz soundtrack on the link that "lampadatris..." provides. It's reminiscent of The Cinematic Orchestra's re-imagining of the "Man With a Movie Camera" soundtrack. It's unobtrusive, complementary. It of course brings up questions of what you should or shouldn't do with a cinematic text like this, but overall I find it very effective.
One of the "better" Nazisploitation films in that it contains more artistic pretensions - it attempts to tackle many of the issues raised in the controversial art-house film "Il portiere di notte" (1974) - but it remains comparatively tame in the violence/torture categories. Written by Giancarlo Clerici of "Cannibal Holocaust" fame.
Aside from a couple of side-splittingly funny moments, I spent the majority of this film with a giant grin on my face. A genuine pleasure to watch and unexpectedly poignant.
Excellent cinematography and the backwards scenes are to die for, but this is mostly just masturbatory nonsense. Disappointing after how much I loved Orphée.
