I am a 63 year old grandfather who loves classic movies. My favourite channel is TCM where I discovered movies and movie stars I didn't know existed even though I had an extensive video collection. I love the way that with the Golden Age films, you can recognize not only the stars but also the hundreds of character actors that the studios had under contract at the time. What a joy it is to see an old familiar face in a movie that you are watching for the first time. In spite of the production code, it's amazing how creative directors were, in order to get around it. Films were still exciting, sexy and contained mature subject matter. This is in contrast to films for today's generation of moviegoers where everything has to be dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. (And boy, does it get dumbed down!) Although there a few decent movies made today (very few), I find that I go through my list of favourite films, the list gets smaller, decade by decade. I think that the last great movie that I saw that is in my Top 100 list is L.A. Confidential - which did nothing at the box office until it got a Best Picture nomination. Oh, well :)
