Certainly not Hopkins' best role, but he plays psychopaths so marvellously that it's always worth watching.
The plot wasn't the most original, but it was interesting enough to hold my attention (which is generally a difficult task).
The ending was a bit disappointing, but not so much so that it ruins the film.
It's a mindless action film with a moral message tacked onto the end. And if you go in expecting just that, it's not that bad.
Explosions, chases on horseback. A ruthless villain and his evil sidekick. A hero. A love interest.
And a really old woman feeding Steven Seagal pre-chewed food D:
The super preachy Al Gore-esque speech about the evils of oil-producing companies kind of killed it, though.
It is going to take me a very long time to erase from my mind the image of Christopher Lee grinning like a psychopath as he stares into some woman's vagina.
Incredibly silly. But very funny and very enjoyable.
It was one of my favourite films when I was about 6, and it's still one of my favourite films, 15 years later.
This movie has all the elements of a classic disaster movie:
an impending disaster, a hero no one believes until it's almost too late, a love interest, idiots putting themselves in danger needlessly so that the hero has to save them, some very impressive special effects, and a happy ending
for most
.
Definitely one of the better disaster movies of the '90s, in my opinion.
movies have been done to death by this point. And unfortunately, Ghastly is certainly not original.
That said, however, it was still enjoyable, and I didn't get bored watching it.
And I didn't feel like turning it off half way through (except for at the part when
the boy tried to climb up the woman's vagina/get his red wings. What the hell was that about ?
)
Also, having watched the film without knowing anything about it beforehand, Hyomin was a pleasant surprise.
My friend described it as 'slow', which I suppose is accurate. But that's not a bad thing. It's not a fast-paced movie and it's not supposed to be.
It's about youth wasting away in a small town; 'slow' is exactly what the film is.
Light and whimsical at times.
Dark and serious at other times.
I also have issues with the film's attitude toward gay people (not terribly surprising considering the fact that it is a Korean film), although I can't put my finger on exactly what bothered me.
It felt, to me, as though the LGBT community was being poked fun at. Not necessarily in a mean-spirited way, but it did make me slightly uncomfortable.
That aside, I found it pleasant enough to consider watching it again.
7/10 stars, perhaps.
I watched this movie solely because I was handed a copy. This is the sort of film I normally detest. I was shocked that it was actually ok. Not good enough that I think I'll ever watch it again, but it didn't suck.
The original 1973 version is one of my favourite horror films of all time, because her revenge in the second half of the film was so completely gratifying.
Unfortunately, the second half of this film, the 2010 remake, didn't feel like it was about her revenge; it felt like it was about the rapists' punishment, and it wasn't gratifying at all.
Also, the fact that the film depicts amazingly depraved acts, yet features no full frontal nudity made it all feel a bit too stylised and out of touch with reality to me.

I really like the premise. But the casual racism, anti-Semitism and misogyny kind of threw me out.Movie comment on The Gods Must Be Crazy

I cannot express in mere words how much the ducks in this movie scared the absolute s**t out of me as a child.Childhood trauma aside, not a bad kids' movie.
Terrible acting, atrocious script, predictable storyline. But none of that matters to a six-year-old.

It wasn't as bad as previous comments have made it out to be. But it certainly wasn't great, either. It's enjoyable enough, if you can look past the melodrama.
